ABSENTEE BALLOTS
Sep 09, 2020

*ATTENTION RESIDENTS – IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT ABSENTEE REQUESTS*

We are aware of Dorchester residents receiving an absentee request form in the mail within the last week or in the upcoming days. These mailings are not from the Village of Dorchester, but rather other organizations. It is very important to communicate to our residents that these mailings do not reflect our desire or encouragement of people only voting by absentee. Instead, our goal is to ensure all voters are able to vote in whichever means they feel is best for them and we will ensure every registered voter has access to vote however they desire.

If you have previously filled out a request for absentee ballots and know you are already signed up to receive an absentee ballot for the November election, please do not send us another request.

If you decide to return the request please be sure to fill them out and follow the directions completely. A photo ID is required for voting regardless if it is by absentee or in person. If you have voted previously by absentee we may already have your ID on file but please call the Clerk’s Office if you have ANY questions or send another copy of your photo ID just to be safe.

Also, please provide your phone number on any requests in the event we may need to contact you.

If you return the mailing from the Wisconsin Elections Commission, the return envelope goes directly to them but you are more than welcome to drop the request off at the Clerk’s Office or in our drop box.

As of right now, absentee ballots will not be sent out until September 17th at the earliest. If you are planning to vote early, in person, the earliest you will be able to do so is October 20th. Of course, this could change if and only if the law regarding it is discussed and changed again.

In order to register to vote, you can register in our office during office hours, or go to: https://myvote.wi.gov/en-us/RegisterToVote to register online. The last day to register online is October 14, 2020. The last day to register in person at our office is October 30, 2020. Otherwise you can register to vote the day of election. Please keep in mind that in order to register to vote in Dorchester, you must have proof that you have been a resident 28 days prior to the day of election.

If you would like to request an absentee ballot online, you may go to: https://myvote.wi.gov/en-us/VoteAbsentee. The deadline to request an absentee ballot online is October 29, 2020 at 5:00 pm for regular and over-seas voters.

If you plan on voting in person, we will see you at the polls! If you have any question, please do not hesitate to contact our office.
